for me it's very hit-or-miss and it depends how it's done and whether the bickering is ever resolved.

Like with R/Hr... as my kid they were basically my OTP (I didn't know what that meant, but that was how I felt about them)... now I think I would like them more if around OoTP they realized that they actually had a lot in common (stubborn, brave, passionate) then they previously thought, and Hermione grew to respect Ron's rebelliousness and intelligence (I do think Ron's smart, just not in a Hermione way- I wish his strategic skills (chess!) were utilized more) and Ron grew to respect Hermione's values and causes (I'd like to say he could talk Hermione out of her SJW-ness about SPEW and they could become better House Elf allies together, with all of Hermione's passion for the cause without her White Witch's Burden attitude) and they had become better friends during OotP. THEN, next in my little "Ideal R/Hr scenario", the whole Lavender nonsense in HBP could have played out without the physical violence (canaries, Hermione? Really? Mah girl. That is not cool) and the "can't have any more Dobbies" line would have made a lot more sense.

And I say OotP because that is the anti-Trio book, where the differences between Harry and Ron/Hermione are really highlighted and he drifts apart from them and closer to Neville, Ginny and Luna, the Silver Trio. It would have made perfect sense for Ron and Hermione to become closer during that book, and after Harry yells at them for fighting all the time that would have been a good time for them to start talking more and empathizing more with each other and becoming more partner-y and Marshall and Lily-y.

This is just my opinion and it's way over-thought and I haven't read the books in a million years and I have absolutely no life so this is the kind of thing I think about, I don't mean to insult anyone's shipping preferences or JKR's right to do whatever she wants with her characters.

Also, I sort of liked that R/Hr's bickering was genuine rather than "omG i h8 you ;)" -bickering. While I think the latter is certainly preferable to actual abusive fighting, it gets on my nerves like crazy and I think it's annoying as fuck. I'd take a middle of the road where the disagreement is genuine but the two do have a respect and love for each other.

I LOVE your spiel about Ron/Hermione -- so much yes! That's exactly how my ideal version of them getting together would go. This entire comment is love <3

YES. ALL OF THIS.

(Anonymous) 2012-06-12 02:04 am (UTC)(link)
...I would ship it if it had happened like that.

(Anonymous) 2012-06-12 03:52 am (UTC)(link)
You forgot the part where Ron would have to stop tearing down Hermione about her intelligence, and learn to accept he's not as good as her in that department.

(Anonymous) 2012-06-12 04:38 am (UTC)(link)
And he did that when exactly? He knows perfectly well he's not as smart as Hermoine - admires that even. Honestly, stop projecting your own bitter experiences onto fictional characters whose experiences are nothing like your own.

lol, butthurt harmony shipper. should have guessed.

(Anonymous) 2012-06-12 02:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Butthurt shippers...get over it. Ships aside, Ron and Hermione were best friends whether you like it or not.

AYRT

This is for both the above anons. The argument and documentation was done by a Harmony Shipper. I don't want to take credit for something I didn't do. I shall have to be clearer next time.

I actually think the Trio shouldn't have gotten together romantically at all. Harry/Hermione and Ron/Hermione both are bad to me. So sorry no butthurt Harmony shipper here.

As for them being best friends. Ron and Harry are best friends. Hermione was their close friend, but I think that tent scene when Ron comes back illustrates their relationship dynamics perfectly. Harry instantly forgives Ron and wants to hang out with him outside to avoid Hermione's justifiable lingering anger at Ron for leaving. Throughout the series Hermione spent a lot of time in the library, without the boys. She's the third wheel.

Yes, because jokes and annoyed sniping = "tearing down".

How do you interact with human beings if you treat what is overwhelmingly inconsequential teasing and brief moments of irritation and unpleasantness "tearing down" and "insults to their intelligence, values, opinions, and ethics"? You're in for a shock when you make friends and get a girlfriend/boyfriend and realize that people aren't angels to each other all the time. It's pretty damn well established that Ron really respects and admires Hermione's intelligence and values, even if they sometimes bewilder or annoy him.

My that's a lot of conclusions you're jumping to. I was unaware we knew each other. Where did we meet again? Oh right, we didn't. You're just spewing bullshit at a person you don't know. Considering I do have a boyfriend and several friends please try to make another judgment about me based on my dislike of Ron/Hermione.

As for you I'm going to guess you jump to unfounded conclusions based on very little information about people. You're friends probably don't tell you much, because you form half-assed opinions at the drop of a hat. Am I getting close?

I don't know if it's cultural differences or what (British? American? friends behave like that normally?), but if my friends ever treated me like Ron treated Hermione, I would drop those friendships.

Teasing is one thing, insulting is another.

Somebody's devoted a little too much of their life to this.
