Hah, yeah, the Harry/Hermione dance was bizarre. In the theaters, I was like OKAY I GUESS IT IS BATHROOM BREAK TIME when that cropped up.

The HPB movies is one of my favorites! The Ron/Lavender relationship in it actually has a bit of foreshadowing, and Hermione clearly breaks it off with Cormac the minute she realizes that she hates spending time with him. A lot of the weird passive aggressive stuff that Ron and Hermione pulled in the books is gone- I mean, the weird bird thing is still in it, but at least it seems more like the equivilant of throwing something at the wall than an actual attempt to hurt Ron.

Hermione seems more balanced in the HPB movie in general though, what with the weird Fleur-hating subplot being cut.

I liked that scene. >_>

Both from a casual shipper stand point and from a BFF stand point. With the BFF standpoint, I just saw it as Harry trying to say, "Hey!! BFF!! I'm here if you need me...even though I have no idea what I'm doing and this is kind of awkward....but fun?" type of thing.

I thought it was adorable. ^^;;

I would have thought it was adorable if Harry had proven to be at all that type of person over seven years. But he's always been so socially inept when it comes to social situations (he grew up in a cupboard, of course he would be) or reading people emotionally (especially girls--especially Hermione). His gut reaction to Hermione being upset is to almost always leave her to it (which is what he does in the book) until he needs her to help his ass find something about Voldemort or the likes to distract her.

That's why that scene seems so forced to me. Harry wasn't that cutesy "let's dance!" type of friend, though it'd have been great if he was, but it came out so OOC. Like if Ron had come back from being MIA with roses and a big romantic kiss...it would have just felt off.

I think that's why I loved it so much. He actually came out of his comfort zone BECAUSE this was a much bigger blow up and during such a dangerous time. He decided to make her as happy as best he could, considering all the circumstances and such, by trying, even if it was hella awkward.

I do need to re-watch it. The canary thing was kind of crazy, but it bother me a hell of a lot less that coldly calculating relationship witch: "I picked the guy I knew would piss Ron off more, even if he gropes me a bit" she admits to Harry without a trace of shame.

...okay, I could write an essay on everything I dislike about Hermione in the books, but yeah, so much gets evened out in the movies.
