Yeah, they're definitely different. Comic book movies are super-condensed from decades of comics and continuity, accessible, and each one is pretty much LOOK AT ALL THESE SEXY PEOPLE: The Movie. Obviously while it's going to attract some of the same crowd as the comics, there's a shit ton of people who have never read them that make the movie fandom its own kind of self-contained thing. All that box office money can't all be coming out of the pockets of comic readers.

And many of the things about the movies that are attractive to people with no comics experience aren't as prominent in the comics. Taking Avengers and its prequels as an example, it's obviously faithful enough to appeal to longtime readers, but comics Tony Stark isn't the smarmy, cheerily boozey quip-a-thon from the movies. Phil Coulson wasn't even in the comics until recently. etc., etc., etc.

And from what I've seen, that's how the fandoms tend to operate. Comic book fandom is one set of people and 'Movies based on comic books we didn't read' fandom is another, with some Venn diagramish overlap. The gulf is made a little wider by the fact that fandom is really into shipping and the shippers will probably be more into the movies.
