It's true. I think it's not elitist - but I think some fandoms just naturally attract older or more mature people (and those tend to have more writing experience and life experience). And for some fandoms it's just luck, or they have 2 or 3 very high profile great writers. Other fandoms have very varying quality fic, and some fandoms just seem to attract very shitty writers for some reason..
