MTE. I went in kind of expecting to ship because, you know, "everyone does", but I came out feeling like they were bros, kind of. Like, I felt like Captain America was the "older brother who could do know wrong and died young in a tragic accident", with Tony as the "younger brother who never could measure up" and Tony's dad as the "parent who always measure the younger brother against the martyred older brother", only then Steve has a chance to come back, and Tony had to interact with this person he had been measured up to his whole life.
I mean, I know that's weird, but that's kind of how I saw it. |D

I'm not really sure how I got that specific of a headcanon, but that's all I can see it as now. |D
On the flip side you have Steve who's totally confused about why the "younger brother" is jealous of him, and didn't realize their parents ha martyred him, but is annoyed at the way that he's being treated because he had no idea what was going on, and he was "dead".
You know, I'm starting to think that the relationship between Steve and Tony is the relationship that Loki thinks he had with Thor... I may need to look into this.

Aww...that's kind of sad. I think it's an interesting thought, though.

"But I think the kind of fic that pisses me off the most are those ubiquitous Loki/Tony fics where Tony ~understands~ Loki or some bullshit and sympathizes with him and sides with him. Like, what? The entire point of the whole Loki/Tony comparison in the movie is that Tony's very existence completely and utterly undermines every bullshit excuse Loki throws out. Tony's incredibly similar to Loki in personality (the whole arrogant egotistical diva thing), and he had an actual emotionally abusive father and actual horrible traumatic experiences and was actually betrayed by a father-figure he loved and trusted all his life -- far worse than the completely made-up slights Loki claims to have suffered -- and yet Tony's helping people and taking down bad guys and trying save the world instead of whining about how his life sucks and trying to rule everyone. Seriously. The entire Loki/Tony dynamic can be summed up as: Tony knows a lot more about Loki's supposed "problems" than Loki does, and he thinks Loki is full of shit. And somehow that gets flipped completely ass-backwards into "omg Tony's the only one who understaaaaannnnds him!!!""
And I couldn't stop thinking about that...

And I thought I had that it was your quote at the end, only I just realized that I didn't, I'm sorry!

So once Tony moves past his issues with that (and all his other issues, like wanting to be the center of attention and Cap being the leader and taking some of that away from him) I imagine they'll grow into a more comfortable friendship.

I think so, but I'm not sure if it will ever be "friends" friendly, you know? Like, I can't see them as ever being as friendly as Bruce and Tony, not really, but I can see them settling into a kind of annoying little brother/long-suffering-but-secretly-okay-with-it older brother dynamic, which I don't personally ship. ^^;

I guess I just can't see movie!Tony and movie!Steve being as good of friends as movie!Tony and movie!Bruce who got to be really good friends (IMO) over the same amount of time, you know?
