See, I don't have problems with a female character as a love interest, as long as she does other stuff, too. Leia from Star Wars and Katara from Avatar: The Last Airbender are two female characters who are definitely love interests for main male characters, but are also very much characters in their own right.

I am sooooo looking forward to the DVDs, because apparently there was a deleted scene of Steve talking to old!Peggy, and I'm really interested in that. It'll probably be a different old actress though, not Hayley Atwell in makeup, which is a pity since Atwell was so perfect and fab...

I honestly didn't realize it until the scene with Natasha and Clint when I was relieved that they didn't kiss or do/say anything inherently romantic, but while I don't have a problem with being a love interest in general, I am just so tired of The Main Awesome Lady having to basically justify her presence by also being a love interest. Even if she does a lot of awesome stuff as well, like Leia, there's still this core part of her character that is defined by her romantic relationship with a man. And while there's nothing wrong with that (and c'mon, Han and Leia are, like, the most awesome power couple ever), when you stop and notice that it happens almost every. Freaking. Time.
Well, I'm ready for more action movies where the female characters are there to kick butt, and for that alone.

See one thing I like about her is that she's hinted at having a possible relationship with one of the male characters but it's not the focus of her (or his) character, and it's not really emphasized in the movie. It's not the point. She's a very good character on her own imo. I do feel like she's a token, but if I try to see past that I really enjoy her. Hopefully in the future they'll add more females to balance it out.
I also really liked Maria Hill and Pepper, and they were both important even if their roles were more behind-the-scenes in this movie. Haven't seen Iron Man yet, but have heard Pepper is fabulous. Hope Maria gets more screen time and I like that she's not a total t&a hottie type and is portrayed as being an agent who happens to be a woman rather than a woman who happens to be an agent.

... and Natasha's extra belt. That made me >.< too. My poor friend in the theater with me had to hear all about it.

But then, her tact suit wasn't any more form-fitting than any other basic SHIELD agent, and at least the heels were stable-looking. Baby steps.
Also, the driving scene.
