I love well-written redemption fics, but it's just lazy writing turning it into "Asshole Character Finds Love And Is Redeemed". Hell, I'm not saying there cannot be a love interest, but Asshole Character has to be sorry for what they did, suffer the consequences of their choices and WORK to obtain people's trust/forgiveness/whatnot.
If they're "redeemed" solely because of said love interest, then there isn't any "redemption" at all. C'mon, authors, give us some character development. I want to see this guy struggle every step of the way to his redemption - that's the fun part!
