Well why the hell not? Their lives* are essentially perfect, no matter how much any of them moan about wanting to be human.

*In the books that is - I know there are epic treatises to be written about why their lives aren't perfect but let's be honest; we all know that Stephenie Meyer never thought that far into things.

Let's see. Richer than oil tycoons, forever young, forever beautiful, immortal, superhuman speed and strength, some other little nifty superpowers... who wouldn't want that?

I'd get so bored tho =/

Unless, of course, I became a forever-philanthropist like Carlisle...I could see doing that for a while. But even then I might eventually get bored and feel like it's all pointless.

Eternal high-school, though... I mean, even with the popularity/untouchability, you'd think they'd try pretend-community-college at least for more free time. There's gotta be at least one time one of them couldn't go out because they had to do this stupid group project that'll take forever and they got stuck with either that one classmate who does nothing but screw around their whole library time OR the one who's really really into it and keeps giving them grief for not helping create a to-scale diorama of a Civil War battle and anyway it's accounted wrong in all the major public sources but it's not like you can complain about that, shut up I know we're moving next year guys but I still don't want to fail stupid mortal Mr. Jergen's class because pride and also you'll make fun of me forever, this sucks.

Or something.

IA anon. Hell, if the Cullens had any sense of creativity or skill, they could have made fake I.D.s for themselves with 21 or older ages. That would solve the accusations of truancy that Edward or Alice might have to go through at least. Then they could do whatever they wanted.

It still would get boring after a while, because living forever (especially without the ability to sleep, enjoy your favorite foods, even die in a painless way) would lose its appeal eventually.

Wait, did they go through the last grade over and over? I don't get it (never read the books) but wouldn't that raise suspicion or something?

I remember a time when vampires had to live in shadows, couldn't come out in daylight (their biggest source of grief and a true reason for them to want to be mortal,) and basically stuck with their own kind. Yeah, the good old days of Anne Rice and Forever Knight.

My understanding was that they would start off in high school so that they could stay in one place for longer. They would graduate, go off to college/travel/etc. They would switch identities and move to a new place before the non-aging thing started to be noticed, so probably every 5-10 years.

Ah, thanks.

No problem! :-)

But, if they switched identities all the time, would that include changing their names? I have read the books, and I still don't understand it all.

There's a lot in the books that Stephenie Meyer didn't quite think through all the way, tbh.

how does anyone on this planet get so bored that they don't have anything better to do than write an epic treatise about twilight...

I don't understand this either, but there are a lot of people who genuinely like the books. O.O I couldn't even START the second one, myself.
