What's going to happen is that we are just going to get a different version of Tony Stark. RDJ will just be thought of as the Tony Stark. The model to which all are compared to. Just like Sean Connery is thought of as the James Bond and all the other actors who play the role will be forever compared to him.

I am not fretting. I think it would interesting in the far, far distant future to see another take on Stark. But right now, I am settled with Classic Stark.

Eh, I feel like Daniel Craig is more authentically Fleming. Sean Connery was playing an iconic character but it wasn't necessarily Fleming's JB.

Yeah, Connery created THE cinematic Bond. Dalton - and now Craig - are more authentic to Fleming's.

Most people I know think of Bond as a codename that applied to different agents who assumed the mantle. I personally like that as it explains the varying characterizations.
