Good luck, secret poster. I'm a huge Stephen King fan and I adore The Stand - which is also an epic length - but good God, I couldn't stand IT. I remember reading 500 pages and just not being able to take anymore. I picked it up again this year and made myself finish it, starting from the beginning. It's not like it's terrible writing or that the premise isn't interesting and there are definitely creepy parts. But I was, as you said, bored to tears.

Also, I don't believe that the fact that it's got 1000 more pages excuses the first 100 from being uninteresting, imo. It doesn't make you impatient. You just have different taste or a different opinion than the people who do like it.
