But it's a stupid fun kind of show. It's composed of cheese, a single spell, and adorableness. First season is probably all you'll ever need, imo, if you ever have the urge to try it.

I love this movie, I used to have it memorized. I think it's one of the better Arthurian Legends, and when I'm thinking about it, this is the canon I tend to use

i love the merlin tv series. i don't know if i'd call it good (it's really repetitive)...but i can't get enough of it. the guy who plays merlin is adorable.

I haven't seen the one on the right, but I do really enjoy the BBC Merlin, though it's probably quite different seeing how little it sticks to the typical versions of Arthurian legends. I'd at least give it a shot!

I really want to watch that other one now! :( Wish it was on Netflix!

I have no idea about the 'new' Merlin, but god that 'old' Merlin was awesome. Whenever I see it, I always feel like writing fic afterwards but it won't get anywhere near the awesomeness of this :(

I LOVE that Merlin movie. :D Haven't seen it in awhile, but I used to watch it all the time and it's really stuck with me. I can't say much about the tv series though; I've only disinterestedly half-watched 2-3 episodes in the middle of a marathon, so I don't have a good grasp on the it.

I used to watch the Sam Neill movie series with my boss at work on slow days. :D It was one of his favorites, and he was shocked I'd only seen the very first episode of it.

Totally agree! My mom got an unfinished copy to review before it went to theaters, and my sister and I watched the crap out of it, even with FAIRIES FLY OUT HERE at the bottom of the movie. Helena Bonham Carter as Morgan Le Fay was the most amazing casting ever.

I loved that Merlin movie/miniseries when I was younger! Haven't seen it in years. Don't worry, anon, you're definitely not the only person who knows and loves it it. I never realized Helena Bonham-Carter was in it. I don't think I knew who she was back when I saw it.

Also, I stopped watching BBC Merlin after the first couple seasons, but while it can be fun, it's hardly serious, high-quality television. So I wouldn't feel too embarrassed.

I am a HUGE fan of Arthurian legends and have been forever. I can safely say your Merlin is a better adaptation than the BBC Merlin TV series, but the latter is pillowy fun. I consider it an AU fanfic that got screened on TV; it's hardly perfect and there are a lot of plotholes, but it's still a guilty pleasure and it gives the legends some exposure. Plus, the cast is sweet. :)

I LOVE the mini-series Merlin (and yeah, definitely the superior of the two shows). It still makes me get a little teary-eyed at the end there.

TV-show Merlins was fun, but it's getting increasingly frustrating. As time goes on, you realize that the writers aren't even remotely interested in providing any kind of coherent pay-off to all the questions that they've raised.

And yet the first pictures of S5 have emerged, showing Guinvere in her new queen-outfit, and I find that I am still its slave to the bitter end...

I have the mini-series Merlin on DVD but I haven't watched it yet because a lot of the fans of it get irritatingly butthurt about BBC's Merlin. It was given to be as a gift because 'the version you like is crappy, here's the good Merlin'. So yeah that put me off a little.

I adored that movie, and while I've caught bits and pieces of the show and it's not bad, my curiosity about the show is more from what I hear online. The film, on the other hand, caught my attention on SyFy and I've spent years trying to see the whole thing. (Which I have managed, but sadly only piecemeal, I've never been able to see the whole thing in one go.)

Freakin' LOVE that version of Merlin. My mom picked it up for me when I went through a massive medieval times/LotR/Arthurian legend phase and I seriously watched it about a hundred times in a year. I just found it in a box in the basement a few weeks ago and I've been dying for school to end so I can find the time to watch it again.
