How is that different from any celebrity crush?

Idk, I'm sort of adverse to anything along that line involving Let's Play, because there has been a whole bunch of creepiness associated with Pokémon let's plays in particular (especially his) in the past. It's an instinctive 'going down a weird road here' vibe. The general creepiness was one of the major reasons Pokémon let's plays aren't allowed over there anymore, too. So call it an early warning flag maybe for me.

An intrigued nonny would like to know more, if that's okay.

Well, there have been a couple of secrets (and backwater forums) in the past who have gotten into creepily shipping the Let's Play Pokemon main characters (as in, drawing weird art of them when they're all 11 year old girls.) Some of it came up when the threads were running--in fact, I'm pretty sure it was a discussion in the Fire Red one for a bit and the discovery of it led Red to totally lose his motivation for a bit.

There was also this HUGE creepy wall of text from a forum somewhere that showed up in one of the LP threads about how someone loved the Pokemon LPs and shipped the characters and doted on Red etc., but I don't have an account so I can't find it and I'm not really sure I'd want to stare into that madness again anyway.

(The other Pokémon related creepiness was more 'self insert' and less 'stalking this guy's LPs to ship the characters he wrote' but all of it together was evidently enough to get Pokémon LPs banned.)

If it makes you feel any better, I meant it when I called it an "internet crush." I mean, basically all that it's amounted to is sort of following his Twitter account and occasionally watching his streams (which also amuse/entertain me.) I said it felt creepy, but at the same time, I'm aware enough to realize that admiring someone I don't really know just based on some of their actions is nowhere near the same as "omg tru luv" or whatever people call it nowadays.

re: all the stuff that's been going on and why it hits the creepy buttons for you, that's perfectly understandable. I wasn't aware of any of it; I'd only read the LPs on The LP Archive.

It does, actually! I've seen internet crushes get really weird before. As long as you do have the perspective on it, that goes a long way toward making it not creepy. (I've even recently been dealing with a guy who swears he's totally in love with this girl who he's never even really met, to the point of offering her to move in with him. And originally, he said he just had a crush on her.)

But yes, as long as you keep perspective, it's fine.

Does anybody know what happened to Chorocojo's Fire Red LP? It doesn't seem to be on LPArchive anymore, and that makes me sad. I liked that one the most.

I don't know for sure because I don't have an something awful account (and even if I did, I would need the "Archives" upgrade), but apparently Chorocojo had a falling out with the community. Something about them getting tired of so many Pokémon LPs? I'm not sure, I just heard that vaguely somewhere, but they were linking to a very old thread to read more about it, and it's not accessible to guests.

Um, sorry for not giving you a clearer answer! I too was wondering about that.

Whatever the case is, apparently Pokémon LPs are something of a no-no now in SA, to the point that the newest LP in the archive, Pokémon Blue, I think, only got posted because it focused on cheat codes, glitches and the general breaking of the game.

Yeah, basically. The guy who did the "Let's Glitch Pkmn Blue!" LP actually had to email slowbeef and promise him that he would make sure his thread wasn't going to devolve into a mess of creepy or senseless derails. If I remember correctly, he still had to close the thread a couple times between updates. Pokemon brings out the weird in goons for some reason, and that's more or less why LPs of it are banned.

On the other hand, I don't think the OP of this secret is creepy. As long as you understand it's just a harmless crush, then it's just a harmless crush.

I think that's fine. I mean, it happens. Just don't try to make it something serious, because that can get unhealthy.

I don't see how it is creepy. Tons of people have crushes on entertainers. They are meant to be people we admire or who make us laugh. These are often traits in people we want to date. Just let keep it that, a quiet crush. Feel free to admire this person from afar, maybe leave a few gush-free positive comments. Don't stalk. Don't leave long, rambling, uncomfortable responses. Don't tinhat yourself with this person. Enjoy the feelings of the cruch while you can and if you can not, try to move on.

Thank you for pretty much reading my mind, OP! Humor is something I really look for in potential partners, so the fact that his LPs always make me laugh is what really hits home for me.

Like I said above, I am well aware of what it is. (lol, I had to go look up what tinhatting was.) I have no intention of really doing anything about it...I mean, I read his Twitter updates from time to time, and enjoy watching his streams, and that's about the end of it!
