This was one of the few book details I was ever spoiled on.

I really wonder how much they'll change. The way they interact and support eachother is beautiful.

Heh, it was one of the few things that wasn't spoiled for me.

I really have no idea what is going to happen with Shae.

In the books, it's pretty obvious that Shae has some affection for Tyrion, but she's primarily there for the money and protection that he can provide and when Tyrion can no longer provide that for her, it makes total sense that she wouldn't feel any loyalty to him.

But in the show, there seems to be a LOT more actual love on her part, so it's going to be harder to believe that she'd just betray him.

Also, it's making me wonder if they'll go through with having Tyrion murder Shae. The show seems to love Tyrion so much, but I'm starting to doubt that they'll actually go there with him. But I think it's pretty essential to his narrative, so... yeah. idk.

(Anonymous) 2012-06-16 12:36 am (UTC)(link)
It's also much clearer in the books, because you're sort of in his head, that he mostly only likes her because she's super hot, super young, and reminds him of Tysha.

I'm torn because Tyrion/Shae made me hate Tyrion in the books, but I ship them so hard in the show. He'll have to be a completely different person, and while I'd LIKE to keep liking him... IDK how that will work out.

BIG SPOILER

[personal profile] helenadax 2012-06-15 11:18 pm (UTC)(link)
I think Tywin will kill her and that will be another reason for Tyrion to kill him. Roz will be the one talking against him in Tyrion's trial following Varys' orders.

I hope we get to see Tyrion strangle Ros then.

I'm not sure about that, since Tyrion doesn't have a close relationship with her. But it's a possibility.

I just want to see Ros get strangled.

I will choke a bitch if that happens.

Um...poor choice of words?

I will be super unhappy if that happens.

Tyrion murdering Shae is just such an important part of his character arc. UGH. WE DON'T NEED TO TURN HIM INTO SAINT TYRION.

Re: BIG SPOILER

(Anonymous) 2012-06-16 01:19 pm (UTC)(link)
I would call it killing, considering she stabbed him in the back first, mind...but...I understand if they choose not to do it. As we've seen, they've changed the Tyrion/Shae relationship quite a bit. Him killing THIS Shae, whom he is clearly in love with, would mean something very different than killing a whore he liked. On the other hand, Shae betraying him would also be much worse (and harder to believe).

I think Helena has a point, though. Ros has taken Shae's role as Significant Whore, especially since people think Ros is his atm, so she could conceivably fill the role. There would be less reason to have him kill her, though, since he barely knows her. (It WOULD give her character a reason to exist, though)

Especially considering now that Shae would probably have to be forced to betray him with the way things are, and it wouldn't fit as well. (Basically, Tywin would be doing the exact same Tysha thing all over again, instead.)

I've yet to catch up to season 2, but having read the books, I AGREE. Show!Shae comes across so much, and endearingly, better than Book!Shae to me, so I guess I'm just crossing my fingers that if she's heading toward that end anyways that her character is at least done some justice.

(Anonymous) 2012-06-15 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
couldn't care less. honestly, the second season was so disappointing that i doubt i'll watch the third.

(Anonymous) 2012-06-16 01:00 am (UTC)(link)
Am I the only one who doesn't like Show!Shae at all? I cringe every time she opens her mouth, tbh.

Nah, she doesn't really do anything for me, either. And - granted I've only seen each episode once, so I haven't really gotten to study any of the characterizations in depth - I don't really get where everyone thinks she's so much different from her book counterpart. I see it most particularly when she gets angry or snappish with him.

(Anonymous) 2012-06-16 01:21 pm (UTC)(link)
People have pointed out things like in Blackwater where she willingly endangers herself to be with him, where in the book she's pretty unapologetic about just being in it for the money.

From the way they've developed her character so far, I don't see Show!Shae betraying Tyrion the way she does in the book. I like someone's suggestion upthread that Tywin kills her, and if he does so for the same reasons that he breaks up Tyrion and Tysha and forces Tyrion to assault her, then that part of Tyrion's story arc can be continued.

(Anonymous) 2012-06-16 01:25 pm (UTC)(link)
I like this idea a lot. Since it was basically digging up Tysha memories anyway, going for the throat so to speak would do well, especially since we won't get narrative.

*nods*

I think it's a good way to streamline the story a bit without sacrificing too much in the way of character development.

I guess we'll see what happens. In a year. *wails*

I'm pretty sure that they won't be changing that and I really don't want them too ... but at the same time I really like show!Shae and so I hope they have a good reason for why she is still betraying him.

I was saying this every week. I completely adore show!Shae/Tyrion...and it's gonna be SO. BAD. when All That Stuff happens. I don't think they're going to change it, and in a sick way it'll be kinda brilliant, just audience-trolling-wise: he's such a fan favorite, and the non-book-reading audience is going to be horrified when their fave has such an epic What The Hell, Hero moment. It'll be fun to watch and I'll respect the ballsiness of it, narrative-wise, but it'll break my heart at the same time.

(Anonymous) 2012-06-16 01:22 pm (UTC)(link)
The scene where he runs to her after Cersei captures Ros just. Breaks my heart to think the likely place they'll go with it.

(Anonymous) 2012-06-16 05:40 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't know. I mean, in the books, all those aspects are there in his personality before he kills her. You can tell he's shallow and entitled. In the show it just wouldn't make sense because he seems to really love Shae.

Honestly they've already made Tyrion more likeable (even not including the Dinklage factor, although that's a huge part) by changing some of his backstory (as in he DIDN'T participate in the Tysha scenario, unlike the books), but I'm not sure if they'll change this part. I HOPE SO, because this Shae is the best thing about the show and the realness of their relationship gives me all the feels. Seeing it dissolve would be far better than a cliche "she's been playing him all along" type deal.
