From what I've personally seen, people usually say "Nazi kink" when they actually mean "Nazi uniform kink" or "Nazi uniform + authority + cruelty kink". It's a shorthand of sorts.

I've never seen anyone in fandom saying they have a Nazi kink and meaning "oh yeah, Nazis killing Jews, that's so sexy I have to imagine it in detail while I have a wank". I'm sure those people exist, too, but it's not what Nazi kink usually means in fandom. But since I haven't seen every fandom discussion ever, somewhere else it might be different.

The way I see it, it's roughly the difference between wearing a crucifix as a fashion statement, and wearing a crucifix because you're Christian. If you do the former you can't really blame people for assuming the latter.

True. This is why it's so important to say/ask things like "could you explain further?" and "what does that mean to you" and "please tell me more" before jumping on people. I'm not saying that you were jumping on anyone or advocating it. I'm commenting on the general state of fandom today and how ready people are to assume the worst when nine out of ten times a quick question reveals that it was incomplete or wonky wording.

Yes, but at the same time, as this one principal was fond of saying, the communication is a creation of the receiver. I don't think many people would pause to talk to a person who asks for Nazis in their porn, to ask for clarification whether they support the ideals or if they just think Hugo Boss cut a mighty fine suit (to be quite honest I find uniforms generic, anyway, so if it's specifically the Nazi uniform kink, I will assume the party had something to do with it).

I agree with you about the state of fandom these days - state of everything, ever, really. A lot of wank time could be saved if people thought about what they were doing and paused to think about wording. Goodness, half of us here are writers, you'd think they know a thing or two about how the choice of words matters.

You're fetishizing a group/an idieology. When you fetishiz say, rape you fetishize a group of people as well, mainly rapist. You would fetishiz the perpetrator if you'd fetishize a certain Nazi, same as with a certain rapist.

I mean writing porn about a random, fictional Nazi is as close to reality as fetishizing a random, fictional priest molesting children.

Yes, and it's the group/ideology of perpetrators. Most fics dealing with rape as kink write about the victims, and it's the victimisation that's fetishised, not the victim and not the rapist. It's about loss of control and breaking of trust. With Nazis, because it's very specifically Nazis, it's getting off on the thought that this random, fictional placeholder is part of a group dedicated solely to committing horrifying crimes. A random, fictional priest belongs to a group which is dedicated to helping, enlightening and teaching, it's just this particular one who is evil.

Same goes for child pornography rings. They are very real and their sole purpose is to produce child pornography. And the characters that are written as part of it are "random, fictional placeholder[s which are] part of a group dedicated solely to committing horrifying crimes".

My point was that with most kinks, rape, shota, whichever, are arousing to different people for different reasons, some of which might be more skeevy than the others. What's there to enjoy with the Nazis except their wacky genocidal ways?

I know that but there are groups of people in the church who are part of a group dedicated to molesting children. By writing underage porn about a priest molesting a child you're fetishizing those people and what they do. And I still don't think that just because you fetishize a single person makes the thing better or worse.

I think fetishising a single person makes it better, obviously, or I wouldn't argue. :D For me it's down to the distinction between getting off on the act, or on the perpetrator, really. With rape kink you need the rapist, the victim, the act of forcing sex on a person, or it doesn't work, whereas with the Nazis all you need is for the Nazi to be there.
