A lot of otherkin can be pretty vicious if you attack their delusions, so maybe OP just doesn't want to deal with that.

That's a good point. I hadn't thought of that. But wouldn't that only be in small corners of the internet that are otherkin forums and such? I mean, isn't the standard response in most all other internet communities "LOL otherkin?"

On Tumblr, it seems pretty widespread, especially due to the tagging system. There was a big wank about it a few months ago on that site. I'm not sure about other sites though.

Also, it's possible OP has an otherkin friend that she doesn't want to offend. One of my friends claims to be a dragon. Since she's otherwise okay and it doesn't come up often, me and my other friend that hang out with her just let it go, even though we find it odd.

does she think she is LITERALLY a dragon, or does she just feel like she has the ... mentality of one? idk the right word (i'm ESL). i've always wondered if there's a continuum of otherkin/furries/etc.

IIRC, she believes she was a dragon in a past life, and has the soul of one. She doesn't believe that she is physically a dragon or something, and she does act like a human. She's a good person, so I just kind of ignore it. I assume that a lot of otherkin are like that, slightly delusional but otherwise okay, but some are just....too out-there to function.

Lately it's been fashionable on places like Tumblr to be "supportive" of otherkin "identities", even outside that crowd. Even comparing ~shaming~ to racism, homophobia, and misogyny.

unfortunately, I have a lot of friends who are social justice warriors, and they would clog up my dash every so often with posts like "support otherkin rights!"

or "i judge you if you judge otherkin"

or "hating otherkin is just as bad as being a racist"

really glad that deleted that tumblr and just got a new one
