...Why does part of me think this is the same Mako!fan anon that's been around recently? (As this crush situation would actually explain a lot.)

Regardless of whether you are that anon or not OP, the heart wants what the heart wants, but if you think this guy is perfectly okay cheating on his current girlfriend, why would you think he wouldn't do the same to you? Sounds from the secret at least that he's the type to have his cake and eat it too, etc.

If his intentions are good and he REALLY feels so gosh darn guilty why exactly doesn't he break up with her AND THEN move on to exploring the possibilities of other relationships?

I assume that's a crack at me? I've been trolling, purposely, because I think the Mako hate is ridiculous and way over the top. Wanting someone to die because they're in a love triangle has got to be the silliest thing to say. But it's just...so easy to get someone's hackles in a rise over Asami. The fandom should be adult about things now, considering how long ago the first series finale was, but it's not. It still acts so immature.

I fear the finale is really going to get these people upset, given the Asami/Makorra clips that have been shown. Alas, perhaps, just maybe, they learned to chillax and stop getting worked up over fictional people. We'll see!

Didn't mean as a crack, there was always the chance the person was seriously as butthurt as they pretended to be. (I've been mostly eyerolling and skimming the "Your character is stupid!' "No- YOURS is!" recently myself lol.) Personally I have no strong hate feelings about anyone, but that seems to be a minority opinion. :P

One can always hope but in this fandom that's highly unlikely. ;)

So you counter immature with immature?

Dear lord this fandom.

It's like ice cream. Bad for your thighs but tastes so good!

Mako isn't a someone, he's a fictional character. Wishing for his death hurts no one except Mako fans who get upset at any negative response thrown Mako's way.

(Anonymous) 2012-06-19 02:16 am (UTC)(link)
Actually, it's the other way around. The fandom, at least the vast majority of it, hate Mako. Hate him so much they wish he was dead/castrated/drawn and quartered. It's...really amusing and sad at the same time.

This link here sums up my dislike for Asami, and how the love triangle really is on Asami's paranoid shoulders, and not Mako's:

Minor problem with your rant - after they got Korra back, from what's been shown, it seems like Mako basically became a little puppy and followed her around - to the point that, when he brings the kettle [presumably the one everyone at the table was using] he phrases his request as 'Korra needs more tea', not 'We need more tea'. Up to that point? Asami hadn't said anything and kept herself to, mostly, watching the two of them with a little more suspicion. Considering the circumstances that's an understandable enough reaction - and I'll give you that the tea request is a pretty silly thing to be the final straw. Thing is, in real life, stuff like that is the final straw as often as big stuff, particularly in times of stress.

Do I think she should have picked a better time, place, and way to bring it up? Yes, very much so. But Mako doesn't help the situation by hand-waving what she's upset about.

As far as her being paranoid goes, is it, honestly, paranoia to feel insecure after 1. Finding out your SO not only did something that, for a lot of people [potentially including Asami], constitutes as cheating, didn't tell you about it, has feelings for someone else, and has been acting 'over protective' of the girl he has feelings for since she got back? Really? 'Cause, personally, I'd be an emotional mess and more than half-convinced I was about to be dumped. So, while I don't think she handled the situation anywhere near as well as she should have, it's not really resting solely on her shoulders.

tl;dr: She certainly didn't help matters, but she's not the only one at fault here - both her *and* Mako are.

You are so worked up over the Mako hate it's sad.

(Anonymous) 2012-06-19 06:42 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not worked up actually, amused and embarrassed, but not worked up. Being worked up is wishing this...thing, that only exists with lines and color, and voice acting, is real, and that you must hate hate hate him.

I honestly, at this point, think the reason why so many people completely love Asami, and hate Mako, with insanely intense emotions, is because...they're projecting. Asami is so flat that she -is- the viewer's avatar. They don't see Mako hurting Asami, they see Mako hurting -them-, and they're trying to make him pay for it. But...he's not real. Neither of them are, and they aren't really Asami.

It's kind of makes you sick, in a way, how dark the human mind can become!

perhaps, just maybe, they learned to chillax and stop getting worked up over fictional people.

But wait, this is fandom, where people who care more than average about fictional people go to hang out. If we/they didn't get worked up about fictional people... fandom wouldn't exist.

I mean I agree there's a line beyond which people should maybe check themselves before saying horrible things to other people based on how they feel about a TV show.

But yeah.

Expecting people not to care at all seems unreasonable.

Maybe you haven't been around the fandom tumblr, orrr, maybe to some extent ASN, but the hate is so over-the-top and the sheer amount of energy people are putting towards it, it's -not- normal.

Like I said before, I'm now convinced people are reacting this way because they feel Mako is hurting -them-. They see themselves as Asami. They refuse for there to be any negative comment towards her character or writing, and will scream at the top of their lungs, call other people a string of expletives, just to be heard. If you make a negative comment about Asami, you're actually insulting -them-. They now firmly believe they are Asami.

The fandom thinks its Asami, and they want Mako to pay for hurting them. It's...kind of a creepy look into what the fanddom has become, on a psychological level.
