Then again the "jumping ship to another fandom" thing seems to indicate that OP's friend might be the same kind of turns-into-a-black-hole-that-exists-only-to-appreciate-Favorite-Anime-or-Movie fandom person but idk

Oh, I agree - there is a difference between the two things, and I'll agree that it's possible that the OP's friend is the same way. If that's the case it's even possible the friendship might be better off ending [if they have nothing in common to talk about anymore]. Even if it's a case of them both being that way...It's still something that they should probably discuss with their friend, and maybe see if they can come to some kind of agreement to keep from over-whelming each other with squee about their respective fandoms, provided they both want to continue to maintain the friendship.
