(Anonymous) 2012-06-20 01:28 am (UTC)(link)I'm making a point that not everyone who watches disney movies are american. people in other countries, especially non-english speaking countries, are unlikely to know that "Disney Princess" refers to specific female characters. for them, mulan is just another girl from a disney film, no different from belle in "beauty and the beast" or esmeralda in "hunchback of notre dame".
unless they are familiar with dolls, sing-along videos and other girls' products from "the Disney Princess line-up", all the merchandise are just more "disney tie-in toys".
does this answer all your questions?

(Anonymous) 2012-06-21 06:27 am (UTC)(link)tbh, i was also surprised that there was one person on here who didn't know that mulan wasn't considered a dp. she's been one since the line for awhile now, and this isn't the first time we've had secrets about the princesses, and how mulan would always come up.
disney movies are VERY popular around the world, especially in japan. they have disney stores in canada, denmark, the uk, ireland, france, spain, italy, portugal, belgium, australia and japan, and they all carry the dp line. on the store sites, you have to click "disney princess" to get to the mulan merchandise.
please do little more research before making unfounded assumptions and denying facts/
and if you don't want to, then why comment in this thread?

(Anonymous) 2012-06-24 07:35 pm (UTC)(link)thanks for letting me know everyone has to be a long time member of fs and everyone must have photographic memory and remember every single disney princess secret and mulan discussion
disney movies are very popular, I'm not disputing that. however, there are no disney stores in south america, africa or oceania. half the world doesn't have disney stores. and the ones in australia closed almost ten years ago. maybe you should do better research yourself? plus, japan and hongkong are the only asian "countries" with disney stores. two out of over fourty countries. that sure covers a lot of asia, doesn't it?
and did you know that the online disney store does not ship to india, home of one sixth of the entire world's population? in fact, the disney store does not ship to over 60 countries. that's a third of all the countries in the world. how would people in these countries know to visit a website that is likely in a foreign language they don't understand and look for a specific merchandise they will not receive?
tl;dr
available on internet =/= accessibility
north america+europe+japan+hong kong =/= the world
disney and disney merchandise has a long reach, but not that long
and please stop telling others to do more research say they are making unfounded assumptions and denying facts before doing better research yourself

(Anonymous) 2012-06-21 06:38 am (UTC)(link)don't assume that they don't know about who is in the disney princess line-up. disney movies are in theaters around the world, and if they are fans, then I highly doubt they don't know about the disney princess line-up.

(Anonymous) 2012-06-24 06:28 pm (UTC)(link)I don't doubt they don't know about the disney princess line-up, but don't assume they know the exact members in the line-up.

If you watch the movies, you don't get to play the ignorant card. You know what's in them.
I don't watch Bollywood films and don't know the tropes, so I don't comment on them. Easy peasy.

(Anonymous) 2012-06-24 05:38 pm (UTC)(link)what is the difference between mulan and beauty? this is not a trope, it is a marketing decision
