(Anonymous) 2007-07-20 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)Crosses are instruments used to punish people. Yes, ONE person that everyone thinks of WAS on a cross, and that on a character to make them goth or something would PISS ME OFF as I'm Roman Catholic, but sweetie, more than one person died on a cross. And a lot of crosses people wear in anime or such aren't ACTUAL crosses because they are two lines of equal size/length BYSECTING each other.
Oh, and did you ever think that the artist might have a reason to put a cross in? Maybe to reinforce the appearance of a monk/priest/someone dedicated to religion? It's also seen as a sign of self punishment, sufferings one must deal with, and atoning for past misdeeds. So sometimes it is completely IN CHARACTER for such imagery to appear on clothing for a character.
My tl;dr point...
Cross != Crucifix showing Jesus (and anyone in higher maths will tell you that != means not equal)
