15. Crucifixion was used as a pretty nasty execution method for criminals in Japan since Medieval years, WAAAAAAY before Christianity reached there. The victim would be tied up to a cross, finished off with spear thrusts by specially trained executioners, and his corpse would be left there to rot for MANY days before being buried or burned. The whole process even had a Japanese name: 'haritsuke'.

So, nyeah on you for thinking crosses in anime are there just for the "OMG X-tian pose" or something. The Japanese knew what a cross was WAY before St. Francis Xavier went there and people like the Martyrs of Japan were nailed to their respective crosses. :P
