Ahhaha, oh god, the angst. It could be pulled off properly, but without the self-mutilation/drug use. I think I like it better when the angst is subtle, and not so much in your face. Kinda hurts more.

This is true. Which really sucks, 'cause Death Note has AMAZING characters that could make for interesting plots.
