15: I'm a Christian (more of a Christopagan to be exact) and I don't mind the "misuse" of the cross as a symbol for a major reason: crosses predated Christianity. The cross symbol has existed in many pre-Christian and non-Christian cultures, and even in Christian history, crosses weren't invented for Jesus. They were invented as a tool of brutal public execution, used on Jesus (as well as on many other people both before and after him), and as well as symbolizing Jesus, came to symbolize sacrifice, death, pain, hurt, wounds, suffering. . . many things that make them an attractive symbol for the gothically-inclined or for someone wanting to evoke the imagery.

Also, the use of a cross (or cross-shaped weapons, yay for my fandom ^_^)in anime or manga to identify someone as religious isn't necessarily meant as offense as much as a part of the story.

For example, the Eye of Michael in Trigun has a cross as one of its signature signs. In manga canon, the group is a death-cult of assassins that worships the Plants. . . but the group is implied in canon to have some "Christian" leanings (e.g. it operates in churches, even its assassins dress and look much as Christian priests aside from being killers and organized criminals) so therefore having crosses in its imagery, to me, qualifies as a legitimate part of the story. Yes, the mangaka could have used leaves or feathers, but it wouldn't have had the same impact, the same connection to something "real" that added the extra layer of scariness to the cult. It elevates it, IMO, from "unexplainable" to nearly "believable."

17: ROFL! I'm all for calling him "Bishie Cuddles". . . no, no, I'm not that far gone. ~_^ But all the namewank is just fucking stupid. Raito does not make someone a weeaboo and elitist, and Light doesn't make someone cool and elitist.

18: Most of my objection to RL porn of any sexuality is that it's so fake and so plastic (even more than art and writing), and it's incredibly objectifying of real people who play those stock roles. Personally, I prefer art, writing, whatever, since the characters *aren't* real people and therefore there's no guilt over objectification. (although looking realistic is a great plus for me, and realistic either to reality or to the canon or both is a goal I go for in my Poser art unless I'm parodying) If it's good I get hot or at least smile, if it's bad I can laugh myself senseless. If it's real pr0n and it's bad (e.g. no enjoyment, someone in pain, etcetera), I feel guilty that someone had to be dehumanized for my entertainment.

With m/m real pr0n, the butt focus is also a big turnoff. Not that much yaoi fanart is that much better, but at the very least there's usually a little more foreplay rather than "stick it in now."

Also, even though I identify as male, writing is much hotter to me. Long live porn WITH plot. It's like having the best of both worlds. ^_^

20: Yes, and birds go tweet. Why do we care again?

21: What's that anime? I think it looks really cool. I love noir-styled or semi-noir-styled stuff. Cowboy Bebop when it had the style going on occasion, Detective Story in the Animatrix, Big O. . .

22: If you don't like concrit, could you specify you don't want criticism in the author's notes somewhere? A lot of us don't know and can't read your mind, and seeing as many of our friends like concrit or pointing out problems, we do it thinking you want it.

23: lol ew.

Your answer to #18 made me happy because that's exactly how I feel. ; A; ♥

♥ It's nice to know there's someone else that feels that way out there, it makes me feel a little less weird. ^_^ Yeah, I won't say I haven't looked at real-person pr0n (though mostly still pics) but mostly, I've done so to make sure I'm not making the Yaoi Fanbrat Errors (e.g. as a sort of "in-progress" anatomy thing), and I'm going to be taking a class in human sexuality this year (so I expect to see much more) but as for getting me hot/making me go "yes, this is niiice" it's definitely the art/writing because there's no guilt there, no "is someone being objectified," and if I've chosen wrong and someone or something *is,* I can snark on the weepy uke/make a meta post/whatever rather than just sigh sadly and wonder about that poor person and whether he really enjoys having sex on film or not.

18s OP here

Yeah, I think the fake aspect is also another reason why I don't like it too. Also, I live in a city with a very large gay community and I have to say, a lot of the relationship aspect is marketed towards one-night-stand sort of things, which really turns me off. I like to see the development of love, not sex between two people who just want to go through the motions. Which is why most yaoi mangas appeal to me- they portray heartfelt stories of men falling in love (i'm a big romantic at heart if that wasn't obvious already ahaha). Of course there are the smut for smut's sake ones too, or the yucky ones with rape. I especially hate the non-consensual ones where the ukes are screaming 'no' or 'stop' over and over again. It's just disturbing and not sexy at all. :/

Oh WORD. Absolutely agreed on everything. My two OTPs are of sworn-friend who could be lovers couples (Wolfwood/Vash in Trigun -who, IMO, become a couple in canon- and Hiro/Ando in Heroes), and my yaoi-manga OTP is Dee/Ryo from Fake. I'm OK with consensual one-night-stand or D/s couples (which is how I actually got into yaoi) but give me my equal, will-give-our-lives-to-and-for-each-other, developing love guys any day.

Regarding rape, I really, truly hate it. I've written it where I've believed a character has been a victim, but I view it as a horrific, psychologically damaging crime and take that approach to it (even if it's not obvious at the time) and I think the whole concept of "OMG he raped me so he must LOOOVE me" is so infernally stupid it needed to die years ago.
