Also, the use of a cross (or cross-shaped weapons, yay for my fandom ^_^)in anime or manga to identify someone as religious isn't necessarily meant as offense as much as a part of the story.
For example, the Eye of Michael in Trigun has a cross as one of its signature signs. In manga canon, the group is a death-cult of assassins that worships the Plants. . . but the group is implied in canon to have some "Christian" leanings (e.g. it operates in churches, even its assassins dress and look much as Christian priests aside from being killers and organized criminals) so therefore having crosses in its imagery, to me, qualifies as a legitimate part of the story. Yes, the mangaka could have used leaves or feathers, but it wouldn't have had the same impact, the same connection to something "real" that added the extra layer of scariness to the cult. It elevates it, IMO, from "unexplainable" to nearly "believable."
17: ROFL! I'm all for calling him "Bishie Cuddles". . . no, no, I'm not that far gone. ~_^ But all the namewank is just fucking stupid. Raito does not make someone a weeaboo and elitist, and Light doesn't make someone cool and elitist.
18: Most of my objection to RL porn of any sexuality is that it's so fake and so plastic (even more than art and writing), and it's incredibly objectifying of real people who play those stock roles. Personally, I prefer art, writing, whatever, since the characters *aren't* real people and therefore there's no guilt over objectification. (although looking realistic is a great plus for me, and realistic either to reality or to the canon or both is a goal I go for in my Poser art unless I'm parodying) If it's good I get hot or at least smile, if it's bad I can laugh myself senseless. If it's real pr0n and it's bad (e.g. no enjoyment, someone in pain, etcetera), I feel guilty that someone had to be dehumanized for my entertainment.
With m/m real pr0n, the butt focus is also a big turnoff. Not that much yaoi fanart is that much better, but at the very least there's usually a little more foreplay rather than "stick it in now."
Also, even though I identify as male, writing is much hotter to me. Long live porn WITH plot. It's like having the best of both worlds. ^_^
20: Yes, and birds go tweet. Why do we care again?
21: What's that anime? I think it looks really cool. I love noir-styled or semi-noir-styled stuff. Cowboy Bebop when it had the style going on occasion, Detective Story in the Animatrix, Big O. . .
22: If you don't like concrit, could you specify you don't want criticism in the author's notes somewhere? A lot of us don't know and can't read your mind, and seeing as many of our friends like concrit or pointing out problems, we do it thinking you want it.
23: lol ew.

18s OP here
(Anonymous) 2007-07-23 11:07 am (UTC)(link)Re: 18s OP here
Regarding rape, I really, truly hate it. I've written it where I've believed a character has been a victim, but I view it as a horrific, psychologically damaging crime and take that approach to it (even if it's not obvious at the time) and I think the whole concept of "OMG he raped me so he must LOOOVE me" is so infernally stupid it needed to die years ago.
