One person's deeply significant cultural icon is another's fashion statement, wall hanging, or museum piece. Probably because I'm happily godless, I don't see the point in giving anyone's religious symbol automatic respect. But I suppose it fits in with the complaints people have about others "stealing" their culture. Like how dare I play a traditional Japanese instrument when I'm not Japanese.

If we are to have freedom, then people do what they want. Trying to point anything not universal into the category of sacred and untouchable assumes that everyone should have to think of it the same as you do.
