I am 100 Percent Able *Bodied,* but I am on the autism spectrum and have mental illness, and some kinds of ableism trigger me. Mainly because people often think we're "making it up" or "doing it for attention" or "should just get over it." It sucks when you can barely get through life and people are saying that your disability doesn't even exist.

...I hope this doesn't sound like I'm trying to incite some kind of war between people with different kinds of disabilities, because that's not what I'm trying to do, at all. Just pointing out why ableism may be a problem for people like me.

I think when they say able-bodied, they are referring to people who do not have any kind of mental, physical, or neurological disability at all.

Not necessarily. A lot of people seem to think that the mentally disabled are either generic "crazies" standing on street corners in tinfoil hats claiming to be the reincarnation of Jesus Christ, or making up their illness. The same people who wouldn't dream of making fun of someone in a wheelchair are all too ready to tell someone who is seriously depressed to "cry moar emo kid," or throw the word "retard" around like it's going out of style.
