Yes, exactly. In context you can't find Jacob - or his friend Quil, for that matter - creepy, because in the world they inhabit, they have no choice thanks to freaky magic. But the fact that the idea of it even came up...

Random, stray thought; do we know of any vampires who mated to human children that they then - presumably - turned as adults? Perhaps a subliminal "the vampires are also better because their mating system's not as unsettling", or am I giving Meyer too much credit?

Not that I can remember, but then again I only read through the series once during a vicious bout of food poisoning.

I really wish that there was some kind of series that explored how incredibly fucked up the Twilight universe is. I mean, I think the creepiest thing about the books is that nobody seems to notice how horrible everything is, but it would be nice if someone could explore the ramifications of all these horrifying implications.

I liked Luminosity, but it's not a "let's point out all the horrible stuff in canon", it's more of a "THIS would be a better approach than canon".

I mean, let's lay it all out:

1) The "Good Vampires" are completely okay with other vampires murdering humans, so long as it's a) not in the backyard of the "Good Vampires," and b) not someone they know. I mean, I'm all for "live
and let live," but that ends when humans start dying.
2) You know how the "Good Vampires" are totally okay with other vampires killing and eating people? Yeah, that whole "blood drinking" thing isn't even a biological imperative. They don't lose out on anything by...you know, not drinking human blood, because animal blood works just as well. They kill people because they want to.
3) The "Evil Vampires" have a shadowy cabal in Italy that somehow manages to kidnap and murder tourists every year, but somehow nobody knows what happened to all these people who vanished in the same damn place.
4) No human can win in a stand up fight against a vampire. None. Ever. They are pretty much impervious to everything. Why they even need to hide from humans, I don't even know.
5) The werewolves can, at any time, imprint on any female that their biological makeup would deem the perfect "mate." This means that they are entirely devoted to the female, whether the werewolf or the female, wants it or not.

This is not a happy world to live in. Humans are basically ignorant sheep in this world, and not even the good guys care. NOT EVEN THE GUYS WHO ARE SUPPOSED TO BE PROTECTING HUMANS. Werewolves exist specifically to kill vampires. However, they're totally okay with letting vampires go around murdering whoever they want...as long as the werewolves don't know about it. Lovely.

I mean, in what kind of psycho-world are the Cullens even the good guys?!

I like to think that humans have managed to do a decent job of it in the past, and vampires hide for a reason. Put enough shards of metal into their legs, I bet they don't move so fast.

This gives me hope that one day, an angry mob will rip Bella and her family apart, restoring the natural order to the world.

I wish people would actually read the source material before making complaints like this...

1. They're not completely ok with it, but how the hell are they supposed to stop them? Eating humans is natural for their species, their instincts, especially in newborns, cause them to see humans as prey. These instincts are shown to be difficult to overcome. e.g. Jasper. A vampire who has been living on humans for their whole lives because they didn't know there was any other way, are not going to find it easy to go vegetarian.

2. Once again, huh? It is stated quite clearly that drinking animal blood is not the same as human blood. It keeps them alive, but they are constantly thirsty. They are constantly in pain. (Another reason why it would be difficult to get others to convert.) Also 'want to' is not quite accurate, rather 'is compelled to by animalistic insticts that are stated numerous times to be almost impossible to control.'

3, 4 and 5: Agree

1) They could, you know kill any vampire group that comes by and starts trying to snack on humans. They don't even start going after James and his group until they try to attack Bella. To reiterate: Murder: It's only wrong if it's someone you know.

2) Oh no! Not murdering people hurts them! You know what probably hurts more? Being a snack for a vampire and ending up dead.

Basically, I would agree with your assessments if we weren't shown two different covens that got along just fine only snacking on humans.
