OMG, YES. Completely agree with/understand this. Also, it seems like there are two major opinions when it comes to mood disorders: when you mention depression or anxiety, it's "HAHA SHUT UP STOP EXAGGERATING THAT DOESN'T EXIST. I WAS DEPRESSED TOO AND I GOT OVER IT", but if you mention ANYTHING else, it's "OMG WE CAN'T BE FRIENDS ANYMORE YOU'RE GOING TO GO ~CRAZY~ AND SHOOT UP THE SCHOOL". Like, fucking come on.

I think part of the problem is that depression is a mood and also a disorder, so almost EVERYBODY can say they've been in a depressed mood before - and then those people turn around and think that what they experienced as a sad mood is what people with depression the disorder experience. And it's NOT the same thing. At all.

My boyfriend REFUSES to believe I have ADHD, cyclothemia, depression and possible autistic tendencies/obsessive-compulsive disorder. His mother tried to commit suicide in the past, so I understand that bit... but he will snap "Come on, I'm not dating an autist! The doctors just want your money - you don't have that!" ...er, YES, I do, you ass, I showed you my scars, and you've seen some of my tics (repetitive clapping, spinning, repeating phrases/words over and over again).

How about making him your ex? I can't see how not believing you in something as major as your medical condition is a good foundation for your relationship.

WOW. I don't even know what to say to that. That is fucking awful, like. Obviously I'm not going to lecture you on your choice of boyfriends, but I really feel for you. I can't even imagine having to date someone who doesn't even believe me when I confide in him about things like that. I'm really sorry, that must really fucking suck. I just don't understand people like that.
