Of course it happens in real life. But a lot of things happen in real life that it would be absurd to believe had happened in the novel, human emotions or not, so that's not a realistic argument. Regardless, her conversation with Gale, which happens after she gets some of her sanity back, and before the decision, is pretty much a giveaway that her principles are the same. The fact that she's still disgusted with the implication that Gale could have been involved with Prim's death makes this clear. The disgust that his involvement was possible is disgust with the notion of using children as pieces in war at all (remember, along with Prim, the kids that died were Capitol children) and that was her problem with it to begin with. There was nothing that happened after her first horror with Gale's plans that would have subverted that, since as both Gale and Snow remind her, Prim's death could have been caused by anybody friend or foe. Then she gets more confirmation that Coin is the type of person who would use kids when she asks the Victors about new Games.

People regularly carry the hypocrisy that the killing of your own is abominable, but the killing of enemies and your enemies' own is just.

Okay. I think I already responded to the fact that what people regularly do has nothing to do with what Katniss would do in her circumstances. Why don't you try using actual events from the novel and Katniss' actual reactions to those events to substantiate your feelings?

Because when I do, you say it was a clever ruse. What was written isn't what happened, it was "subtle". Going by Katniss' actual actions and reactions, one knows that she can't even go along with another's plans at subterfuge, much less concoct her own.

I'm sorry, but I have yet to see you use a single thought that Katniss' evidences to support that she would want to get revenge. Which is what I'm asking. I don't think it was a clever ruse. I just think her intention when she said yes, which doesn't mean I think it's clever or well-formed or frankly an actual plan. It doesn't even require subterfuge; it's one word. Katniss makes split-second decisions like that all the time, so I'm not sure why you would think it's out of character.

I don't think it was subtle at all. I think it was obvious, that's my point.
