No, teen girls are not as stupid as you would have them be.
Haha. No one ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of people. Besides, I thought I was very clear that I didn't think there'd be girls out deliberately trying to imitate the story? That the problem was the normalization and romanticization of gross behaviors (it shouldn't need to be said that Twilight is not the only perpetrator)? Lemme me guess, you also think people are wholly immune to advertising campaigns and it doesn't really matter if all the minority characters in movies are icky stereotypes because it's just a fantasy, bro. Not trying to get all social justicey, but... stuff in the media matters. People are affected by it. We're supposed to be affected by it; it's failed when we aren't. But would you protest if every woman in every movie were a wish-washy, bitchy harpy with no aspirations but baby-making and gold-digging? If you would, what do you think distinguishes that from the Twilight relationship dynamics? And if not...then obviously we have nothing further to discuss.
And how many people never stopped to think that maybe Bella and Edward had a horrible unhealthy relationship? Or handwave it away when it's pointed out? If nothing else, you for sure have the author in that category, since she seems to genuinely think Bella/Edward is a romance for the ages.
