I'm confused as to why you chose that as a comparison, when you obviously find smoking a distasteful habit. Because being able to juggle flaming knives is a pretty damn cool skill.

My favorite example from classic literature is (Abraham) Bram Stoker naming Dracula's leading expert vampire hunter Abraham Van Helsing. I don't know why but it cracks me up so much thinking of Van Helsing as Stoker's author avatar.

I don't know. There's a character who, in canon, has kind of low self-esteem, gets agitated easily, and is kind of nervous. It's unknown if he's a smoker or not. So I had him smoke. Because most of my friends who are like that smoke to give themselves something to do with their hands, and often take up the habit in school because their friends smoke.

It made sense to me.

Also, smoking isn't any worse than alcohol, really. (Except to non-smokers) Do you get mad when characters consume alcohol when we have no idea if they do in canon?

No worries anon, we're all different and we find different things annoying and whatnot.

Personally, I find it refreshing! I think this world is full of so much blah and sadness (from a lot of my friends and otherwise) that I do like seeing there are people in the world who can be giddy 24/7.

Also, while Amon turned out to be pretty hot is anyone else bothered by how different he looks as an adult then as a child?
I know hes been wearing a mask for years but that wouldn't make your skin go THAT pale ffs.

I totes thought Tarrlok was Amon, though (yes, I realize that discussion prolly happened a couple weeks ago, but I only just watched the series yesterday and today, so I'm a little behind :). I was really surprised when he wasn't.

I actually use that song in my English classes to teach the difference between "see", "look" and "watch"... (long story on how I use it, but most my students think "watch" is a verb that is only used to talk about TV before they get to my class), and watching their expressions when they realize how unhealthy the romantic relationship is, well, I admit it's priceless.

I assumed he bleached his skin, considering he was wearing makeup. Yakone was pretty light, though.

I love Makorra, I was so glad it became canon. So many people made up these silly elaborate theories about how Korra and Asami were going to go BFFing in the night or how he'd choose Asami because this or that. He apologized to Asami I honestly don't think he was a big of a dick as the fandom thought he was. Hell, even Asami forgave him, because she understood.

Ohhhh, okay. I thought you were making an over-the-top comparison. Jugglers who can do all the cool tricks are just freaking awesome to watch, like fire-breathers.

So far, I'm only up to juggling oranges. You have to get the handle to flip back to you with knives, and I currently suck at that.

There are a lot of fandoms where het pairings are popular. Your problem is that you're generalizing fandoms. If people were only interested in slash, gen fics would never make it big. And they do. There are some that receive thousands of reviews.

As someone who can't even juggle one orange, that sounds pretty impressive to me. How many can you do at once? Also you won't stab yourself if you slip up. The professionals who can manage it are great to watch, true, but I'm a pessimist - all I see is a blade in an unfortunate body part, and then an exciting intercession by your friendly neighborhood paramedics.
