When I was a freshman in college, I worked, went to class, slept, and wrote; not time for much else. In a discussion one night with co-workers about what we were all doing for the weekend I made some self-deprecating remark yet again about "oh, my EXCITING night watching movies in the dorm room." One of the other girls who liked to go out a lot laughed (not pleasantly) at me and said, "If it's what you like to do, it's exciting enough for you, I guess. If you don't like it, get off your chair and go out and find things to do. Do, or don't; but why do you care what other people think of how you spend your recreational time?"

And, it's true. Of all the people you will ever know, you're the only one who has to spend all their time with you. Entertain yourself with fandom and keep one eye out every so often for commenters and posters in your shared spaces, and you'll find like-minded fans. I guarantee it.

When I say supernatural shows and modern AUs, I'm referring to supernatural creatures that don't need to smoke/don't know the culture of smoking, being put in a normal-day AU and smoking. Sorry that wasn't clear.

Not at all. It's a secret because it really shouldn't bother me. It might have something to do with the family members I lost/am close to losing due to smoking, and I've never lost anyone to obesity or drug overdose or an STD or an accident, etc. Or it might not. It's a secret because idk, okay. I find it silly myself, and I wish I had a reasonable explanation.

It's a pity because I've read great fics with good plot and characterisation and all, but as soon as a character who doesn't usually smoke suddenly is, I'm backing out. As if I wasn't picky enough.

I don't get that feeling because I generally admire anyone who's always full of smiles and happiness, but I think I can see where you're coming from. You don't have to feel obligated to like him though. I know Tumblr is very overbearing what with the huge surplus of Tom Hiddleston posts, but there's not much anyone can do. I know Tumblr Saviour exists, but oh God the amount of people who don't tag is annoying.

Nah, I get you OP. Back when f!s used to update at 4am for my time zone, I'd get up early every day. Then get really frustrated when I didn't wake up. I don't see it as not having a life, though. It's not like you spend the time obsessively refreshing the threads, is it?
