Does anyone else out there wonder if he has a little bit of a self-esteem problem or worries other people think he does (or is he just jumping out in front of the Loki woobies)?

It's mostly the way he says things like this in response to jokey questions or looks to Hemsworth for approval when they do joint interviews. And he's always so careful to make eye contact.

Less self-esteem and more too self aware. As in, "This is going to be on the internet tomorrow. How do I come across? Cocky? Sweet? Stuck up? I have to be careful about what I say."

I mean, look, we have gifs right here about what he is saying. He is like the anti-Jennifer Lawrence who says whatever is on her mind. (Thank God, she is a funny, down to earth loon.) I can just imagine Hiddleston googling himself to make sure that he comes across well in fandom.

Then I thought, well what if now he only finds negative stuff? So, on one hand I'm cringing of embarrassment that he might see some of my more pathetic fangirling, on the the other I just want to squish him! See, I think that's my problem with him. It's true that a lot of actors have self-esteem issues and they all put on personas, but Hiddleston's actions and words seem especially calculated, and I don't like that.

But can you blame him? When a misunderstood word can sink a career, if I were him, I would be on my toes all the time.

A lot of actors are. In fact, a lot of them go into acting specifically so they can be someone else. It's an attention- and approval-seeking based profession. I'm tangentially involved in it (regional theatre in a major city) and not an actor myself, but I see it a lot in actors I know. Even the young ones I went to college with.

If you've ever watched Inside the Actor's Studio, it's one of the the more candid interview shows, with actors talking about their experiences in the industry. There's a LOT of insecurity, self deprecation, and especially backgrounds of neglect/broken homes*, even amongst the highest of A-list stars.

*which is not to say all divorced households are "broken" or neglectful, or even that all the ones of actors from such backgrounds like that went into their professions seeking attention because they lacked it growing up. But if you watch an ITAS marathon and take a shot every time divorce comes up, you'll be shitfaced in no time.

I agree with what you're saying but it's particularly obvious with him. Which is weird because he's an actor.

I almost never watch interviews and such, because the questions are usually so stupid i can't stand them, but now....

I'm going to have to google him and watch some stuff 'cause he sounds so adorable.

My favorite part is the way he always leans in, eyes wide, to make sure he completely understands the interviewer. I feel like he's one of those people who always makes you feel like you have their undivided attention.

He does it with a few of them. I've just specifically seen more people posting about it when it happens with Hemsworth.
