I still love them, but I don't need them (or their fandom) the way I did a year ago, and even though I still watch videos from time to time I feel so, SO much better not being in the fandom anymore. Saner. Happier. Way more creative. And honestly, for all the good I got from it, getting out of that community was one of the best things I've ever done.

That said, if you are happier without being in the fandom, than you probably made a good decision leaving it.

And agreed about the look of the secret itself. I could read it but it was a pain, so please be a bit more careful next time.

I don't participate in the fandom, so I haven't been aware of what's been going on, but reading through the comments in this thread...Man, I didn't know things were that bad :( I hope Spoony does seek out and gets the help he needs, because from what I've read, he definitely needs it :(

I also can't help but wonder if these behind-the-scene problems are why the fourth year anniversary video/s haven't come up yet, or if that's just because there's a lot of material to edit.

I used to watch some people's reviews and even trawled the kink meme from time to time. But then everyone started dating each other (or their SOs got spots on the site) and then they were putting too much of their real life on display. It creeped me out. The kink meme was fun when the line between Phelous and Phelan, for example, was a lot thicker. (I can't go for rps, ymmv.) And, the site was more fun when for the same reasons.

Oh, and the fangirls and boys are a little too... pathetic. I wish the fandom could talk B-movies. TGWTG is a great launch point for talking B-movies, etc. I kind of hate the fandom for the "he said it sucks, so it must" demeanor and just sticking to discussing hot dudes/chicks doing sexy and funny things. It took a while but I realized that the fans weren't ever going to bite on my attempts to actually discuss the movies some of the guys reviewed. They are not there because they are interested in the movies...

Anyway, OT, cool story sis and tl;dr.

Nah, I get what you mean. I tried to watch the videos of the "main" reviewers, and found it awkward how they gradually went from "reviewing the actual material" to "making irl references and jokes and skits with my friends". That was years ago, and now I hear that there is relationship drama going on around some members and... sigh.

Yeah, I've started only watching Blistered Thumbs basically because so many of the TGWTG folk are putting their personal shit on display and it begun to exasperate me how, for lack of a better word, mainstream a lot of their taste was.

That fandom was a source of drama. The homophobia apologists, the BNFs who liked to think of themselves as part of the TGWTG crowd and only ever interacted with other fans to promote themselves, the people turning on each other, the shitty self-insert fic, their complete passivity when faced with trolls threatening people's lives, certain fan who thought that being genderqueer gave them a pass for acting however they wanted... and whatever the hell happened with JewWario.

My new fandom is full-on drama all the time, and it STILL isn't half as bad.
