Well, it is pretty different from the comic books…

But the idea is to make a distinction. The Thor movie wasn't based on Norse Mythology; it was loosely based on a comic book loosely based on Norse Mythology. They're different. The Avengers movie is loosely based on the Avengers comic books. If you can't make that distinction, than yes, you probably won't enjoy it and you shouldn't watch it.

Pretty much this. I mean...if you already hate the idea of it because it isn't true enough to Norse Mythology and don't think you could separate the two things, then...you'll probably just hate it more after you see it.

And in most cases...I really don't get why changing a characters hair color (or eye color, etc) is such a terrible thing. *shrugs*

I felt very much like OP before seeing Thor and fortunately, I found it didn't bother me as much as I thought it would. I mean, things still irked - Odin losing his eye in battle, an OC running around calling herself Sif - but I could set that aside and enjoy the movie for what it was. Chris Hemswroth likely had a lot to do with it, though.

Hemsworth is some serious eye-candy, so no argument there. I have little knowledge of Norse Mythology, so this wasn't an issue for me. I loved pretty much everyone too, Sif included, but hey...I understand that people want to see the 'source material' represented in a respectful and truthful fashion, but sometimes it can be beneficial to just take things as they are and realize these were meant to be two very different things.
