Woo for mythology nuts! (Classical mythology is one of my passions)

and I totally agree. I used to be pretty upset about Disney's Hercules (in my defense I was a young kid who really liked mythology), but it's not really intended to be the same. Thor isn't supposed to reflect Norse mythology completely accurately, I think, just be similar.

Hah I was exactly the same. I was about 12 when Hercules was out and went a bit crazy at how "OMG THIS ISN'T PURE!" - now I find it amusing how much Disney obviously had to bend over backwards to avoid awkward questions like "mummy, why is that man married to his sister?"

Haha, that was exactly my reaction. I'm fine with the movie now because it's REALLY hard to water down Greek/Roman mythology to fit the G/PG audience. I remember my high school Latin teacher heard some description of Ganymede being about how since he was a very nice boy he could bring milk to Zeus or something like that.

Still I remember being a kid and being all pissed off for inaccuracy.

Well, he is a cup bearer, but I don't think milk or even ambrosia is his draw...

Uh, really? In all mythology books I've read they only mentioned him as cupbearer who brought Zeus ambrosia... is there anything else to that myth? I've done small research online, but once again, it says only about the ambrosia thing.

Um, totally GAY PEDO MAN-BOY LOVE. Not really surprising modern mythology books cover that up...

Zues is a pedo and he stole Ganymede to have the sex with him. There were quite a few pedos, including Aphrodite and Apollo. Ganymede was only made a cup bearer so that Hera wouldn't get too mad about all the infidelity. She still got mad, mind you, but instead of taking it out on Official Cup Bearer Ganymede, she just took it out on his family during the Trojan War.

Yep. The Greek myths are reaaaaaaaally skivvy.
