I don't understand how knowing about Norse mythology means you can't possibly see Loki as sympathetic? I mean, it's not as if the mythological version was irrevocably evil either. He did bad things AND helpful things depending on what he felt like doing. YMMV on whether he could be sympathetic, but he's not really a villain in the way the Marvel version is. Trickster archetype =/= villain.

My issue with the Marvel!Loki is the opposite of yours, actually, being that I feel they make him too evil and destructive and not playful enough. I wound up liking Marvel!Loki anyway, though, just on his own merits.
