Everyone says, "trust in Peter", but he made some stupid decisions in the LOTR films. See: Arwen's fate is (somehow! mysteriously!) connected to the Ring, so she's dying, SAVE HER ARAGORN. See also: Denethor's improbable death run, because a man setting himself on fire (after trying to do the same thing to his son) "doesn't have enough drama". WTF, Pete.

Who is this? And who is she playing in The Hobbit?

Well, the actress Evangeline Lily from "Lost", but I have no idea who she's playing in the Hobbit. It's the first I've heard of it.

She's playing an elf from Mirkwood called Tauriel, one that isn't in the novel. She's captain of the guard or something, I think.

oh is that all? I don't see the big deal. That's a relatively short part of the story and she'll probably have a glorified cameo if nothing else. Personally I like Peter Jackson's reinterpretation of the books. The Hobbit is much more 'precious' to me than LOTR was but if anyone can do a decent interpretation for the movies, he's the man to do it.

Uh...that doesn't sit well with me.

I sense that this is an attempt to make women more proactive, like they tried with Arwen in LotR. Commendable, but I think it will stick out like a sore thumb. I also don't particularly like that they're using her face...if it's truly a bit role, I'm sure there was no end of elven-like women to fit the part. I think it was a poor choice in casting, since the decision to include this character will already aggravate fans.

...Oh god, she's going to become a self-insert Sue...Oh god all the Legolas fic...

I think they're trying to make her into the Arwen they didn't get to do in LOTR (damn those fans who didn't like Xenarwen! damn Liv Tyler for wanting to be like book!Arwen and damn her for failing at weapons training!)

I think the common assumption is that she's going to be also the token love interest of... someone. Possibly Bard or a dwarf, or an Elf from Rivendell if she really is Itaril rebranded.

One of the Legolas fans on TORN was on the verge of a breakdown until Jackson stated that she wouldn't hook up with Legolas.

Oh great. As if putting up with "Kate is important" plot points in Lost wasn't annoying enough, now she may have "(Evangeline's character) is important" plot points in The Hobbit.

It's so underrated, and I don't know why people find Kate's character boring. She had one of the most interesting stories of all the losties. And Evangeline Lily did such an amazing job. Can't explaine all the hate.
