How is it a pun on hate?

Sorry, the comment I replied to got my words mixed up, it's still a three-way pun but that one's "hurt". It's in the (english version of the) game, in the second half, the 'hatoful boyfriend' in the text box changes to 'hurtful boyfriend'

and if you meant like linguistically how does it work out, はーとふる (lit. hātofuru, romanised = Hatoful) is basically a transliteration to be used for both "heartful" and "hurtful", as well as the hato/pigeon thing.

Ahhh okay. I was thinking, "but hate is pronounced totally differently!" Hurt I can understand. :P

OH MY GOD, I SEE THE TEXT BOX NOW!! All the way through, I thought it was the top window text that changed to Hurtful, lol. Now I feel like a derp XD
