Personally, I'd find it repulsive anyway. There's just something so ugly and creepy about babies. Humans are the only mammals that have infants that are hideous compared to the adults and it weirds me out so much. Why does this happen?

...You haven't seen many newborn animals, have you?

(Anonymous) 2012-06-27 03:33 am (UTC)(link)
Not a huge abundance, no, but I have been present for a few animals births (kittens, puppies, calves and foals) and I've never seen a newborn animal that looked less cute than a newborn human. And baby animals start looking adorable as soon as they're no longer covered in goo. Baby humans continue to look repulsive for about a year and a half.

Ah. I've seen some pictures, and not all mammals come out looking very good. I've only seen in person newborn dogs, and personally don't find them very cute.

As for human babies, I can't say I like them much either, but I suspect it is very much a subjective thing. Newborn? Yeah, they look horrendous. But give them a few months and I'm pretty okay with them.

It also varies a lot from baby to baby.

Yeah I do acknowledge that it's subjective, but usually even when I don't think something is cute (or attractive or interesting or whatever) myself I usually can still understand why others do, but for some reason with babies it just doesn't work. I cannot comprehend how anyone could find them cute. It just doesn't compute for me and it makes me feel weird since I seem to be in the minority on that. Monkeys too. So many people think monkeys are cute and list them as a favourite animal. I... just...can't with monkeys. *shrugs*

Yeah, I've seen some babies that aren't ugly, but I'd never go so far as to say cute until the toddler age range.

Well, it's okay. There's nothing wrong with you!

(I find monkeys ugly too, and can barely believe how many people like them or find them adorable, so I can relate.)

I generally agree with you - I don't find babies all that interesting until their individual looks start to become easily discernible.

I found myself a little under-whelmed when the SPN fandom finally got a picture of Thomas Padalecki - he just looks like any other baby Never mind that his father is one of most gorgeous guys in TV, a baby is a baby is a baby. West Collins is more interesting to look at because he's old enough to have his own looks.
