the medical community has only fairly recently started looking into it

Tell me about it, ugh. I've been in therapy for years for anxiety problems. A couple years ago I tried bringing up Misophonia by it's name and describing my symptoms. I'd done my own research that made me go "Ah! That's me!" But the therapist and the psychiatrist had never even *heard* of this and neither of them could be bothered to even give it consideration.

I've heard similar experiences. It's frustrating that it's still lumped in with OCD or other sound disorders. I'm sorry that happened to you!
