I guess i'm mostly replying to the secret, here, which is talking about bashing? She's not marginalized or one-dimensional (i've never read the comics, so i don't know if she's 'in character' as far as that goes, but she is as far as the movie'verse goes), and unless the story is exclusively focusing on one or two characters, she's never left out. Considering the horrific bashing and erasure that goes on in a lot of fandoms, this is hugely refreshing.

The only thing so far that i've run across that i *don't* like about fandom writing her is that some authors have her getting snarly over Steve holding a door for her or calling her 'Miss'. I refuse to believe that Natasha would be that petty or snappish over what are basically manners.

Read the secret again. It doesn't say anything about bashing, and in fact the wording says that it's about the treatment of their history, which could mean any number of things. I've also seen a TON of one-note Natasha, both fandom-wide and C/C specific. If you're reading a bunch of fic with good Natasha in it, I wish you'd make a recs list, because I'm barely finding any.

My mistake.

I've no clue what Clint and Natasha's history *is*. The movie hinted that they have been soldiers together and know about each other's lives/how they got into the business their in. But other than that, i don't know if comic-canon says they were more than just partners in fighting/spy/soldier stuff or not.

The fics i'm talking about are *focusing* on the Clint/Coulson 'ship, or the Steve/Tony 'ship, so other characters aren't the main focus/in every scene. In the scenes where it's...important to the story? has a place? their history isn't erased or made less of. In a few stories, when appropriate, they've been each other's 'bedrock', so to speak, and Natash has been the one the others look to to help them help Clint, since she knows him best. They're pretty much *always* best friends and 'brothers in arms', and have each other's back, go to each other for support, etc. BUT - like i said, i don't know if their comic-history has any romantic/intimate moments or not.

I'm only going on movie-canon, and a number of these stories are doing the same - a lot of the authors don't *know* the comic history of the character(s) and are just working off movies and fanon.

Clint proposed to her at some point in the comics so yup!

However, comics=/=movies, so I'm not sure if that matters. It's nice when people supplement their movie stories with comic stuff, but they're totally different universes so really it's just refreshing in the sense that it's not the same wacky sex quirk or whatever that fandom came up with parroted 393598 times.

Ah ha, really? I'm assuming she said no? I can't really see her married....

I think some comic stuff in movie 'verse stuff is cool if it fits with the movie stuff, but there are *so many* comics, and so many stories, and so many reboots and deaths and resurrections and all that.... It's kind of impossible, yeah.
