I've only ever seen teenagers or fairly young people tease each other through insults, not older people. We do joke around and tease each other in my family, and my parents do it too, but calling the other "useless" and such, like the couple in the movie, strike me as pushing that line, and I doubt either of my parents or other couples I've seen would ever dare tell something like that to the other, even in jest.

You're probably right, though. I probably haven't met the couples that do that without using it to hurt each other.

Or it might even be a cultural thing. Or maybe it's just my family and other people I've spent time around. I don't know.

it's not just the words but the way they're said and the way the other person react to it

when my father calls my mother useless, it's usually in anger and in reaction to something she did "wrong"

this is not good

the film couple seem to be more good-hearted about it
