My dad was 16 years old and on a fishing vessel off the Greenlandic coast during the Cuban missile crisis. The US had planted nuclear missiles in Greenland a couple of years earlier. My dad was on the bridge watching US navy vessels (someone please correct me if I'm wrong on this) not far away from the fishing vessel. He was convinced that nuclear war would happen and that he was going to die. Nobody on board spoke of it, but the atmosphere was extremely tense. Suddenly, my dad spotted the US vessels leaving. He ran inside shouting ''They're turning around!''

Everyone was in an very good mood after that.
