Re: can anyone explain IPs to me?
(Anonymous) 2012-06-29 10:22 pm (UTC)(link)It's quite likely that the two users have the same ISP and live in the same area, but without more information, that's about the most certain I'd want to get. It's certainly possible that they know each other, or used the same computer (library, etc, as mentioned previously), but it's just as possible that they just happen to be in the same area on the same ISP.
Now, if you get a series of posts from the same IP from both users at the same time - A-B-A for instance - that makes it far, far more likely that they're using the same computer, or at least the same network. (College campuses, workplaces with an internal LAN, and the like often will share IPs as well.) If you see that kind of behavior, I'd start suspecting something fishy.
