Meeting a celebrity always feels so...fake to me (not that I've met any). I'm sure they are nice, but in the back of my head I would always be thinking 'this is their job, they won't remember me five seconds from now'. Seems a bit hollow and empty to me, and a bit sad really. But that's just me, a lot of people enjoy it!

I have no problem with anyone who enjoys meeting celebrities at all. I'm glad they have a good time.


But for me personally it really does feel fake. I feel like you can't encounter a celebrity on equal footing or something.

I've met a fair amount of famous writers through my job as a professor and that's not weird to me because we are meeting on equal footing of sorts. I'm escorting them around campus and introducing their presentation and having dinner with them, talking about writing and teaching and it's like we're meeting as colleagues. I still get kinda star struck sometimes (OMG, Judith Ortiz Cofer) but it's so different than the few times I've met media celebrities.

I think you can definitely tell when they're doing it because they have to, and when they're doing it because they genuinely enjoy and appreciate their fans. I had the pleasure of meeting one of my favourite actors in person and I was absolutely blown away by how genuinely sweet he was. I know they're not all like that, but they do exist! I've met quite a few celebs because I'm a crazy con-goer, and yeah, some of them are definitely not as enthused, but the ones that are really make it so worth waiting in line and being awkward and stressed about it. At least that was my experience. Ugh, brb, reliving that experience in my head for a bit. 8'D;;
