Is this mess of a manga over yet

Came to say this, and apparently [spoiler alert] Itachi is raised from the dead to have one last hurrah with Sasuke which is probably the scene OP is referring to.

I remember a time wehen Sasuke was my favorite character because of all his shades of grey. Then he killed a girl who was his ally and was held hostage by an enemy, so that he could show that enemy he didn't care about her, and I stopped caring about his ass. I also stopped reading the manga.

Well, to be fair, he didn't actually kill her, just tried to. But yeah, the fail that is Sasuke these days is amazing.

(Anonymous) 2012-06-30 11:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Uh, no. He didn't kill her, and while he's definitely been pushed into the deep end, I still consider him pretty morally ambiguous. A lot of characters are.

He mortally injured her. The fact that she didn't die doesn't change the fact that he aimed to kill her. His moral fucked-upness reached its red level for me when he speared her to get to the guy holding her in front of him like a shield. What kind of a low life a-hole kills a trapped, defenseless hostage, an ally no less, just to win a fight. The fact that the other guy thought holding the girl in front of him would somehow cause Sasuke to hesitate shows that even a random villain has a higher moral ground than the most popular character in the manga.

The kind who cares about revenge over all else and who is explicitly shown not to care about his allies? It's been some time since I touched Naruto, so I could be wrong, but I got the impression that Sasuke wasn't someone we were supposed to root for anymore, and that how badly he went off the deep end while pursuing revenge is exactly the focus of his character nowadays.

Apparently not, from what I've heard. Although I stopped reading the manga after 99.99% of the characters I loved got killed off and/or turned into zombies.

Which is sad because Naruto was my biggest fandom for a looooog time and the Akatsuki were awesome.

lmao, this trainwreck will never end. $$$ > quality

Yes, this is coming from someone with a Bleach icon. Note that I stopped after the Deicide arc.

They are off namek!

I laughed at this harder than I should have.

(Anonymous) 2012-06-30 11:14 pm (UTC)(link)
It'll be over as soon as the author has finished preparing his next hit. You just know he's not going to go out unprepared to keep milking his fanbase. (Or his editors, or the editorial; I dunno who is the desperately hungry for money party in there.)

i don't read naruto personally but this secret suddenly reminds me of a secret which was posted i think a or two year ago about how the secret maker said it was their favorite "bl manga" (or something along those lines)

lol

This manga is a fucking mess and I stopped reading years ago, but seeing this makes me want to read the latest part.

I never was a fan of Sasuke by himself at all, but his relationships with Naruto and with his big brother (or at least some parts) were so intense and well done IMO. It's weird, that I hate the manga and the character overall, but his fight with Naruto and the part right after Itachi died touched me so much (some of the few times I've cried while viewing fiction.)

Oh, the manga is excellent at emotional manipulation and always has been (see: Zabuza and Haku's death) but it's mostly used as an effective distraction from the incredibly inconsistent storytelling. Before that scene in the secret, Sasuke and Itachi spent a bunch of chapters acting like tools, expressing not a single shred of complexity towards each other, it was all just I LOVE YOU BRO LET'S HUG without any of the resentment, rage, and hatred that made that love so tragic before. I expect the same disappointment from the final confrontation between Sasuke and Naruto.

As much as I hated Sasuke and Itachi's entire reunion arc, that scene was still like a punch in the gut. That's what makes the manga so successful, I guess, to be so stupid yet still pull powerful moments like that out of nowhere.

I felt nothing.

Van and Folken did the "older brother screwed up but was redeemed in the end" way better.

I stopped reading it up-to-date after he had Hinata confess to Naruto then go "LOLKTHNXBAIII" and it was never addressed. By Anyone. At all. Sigh.

Occasionally Kishimoto is really good at making heartfelt/heartbreaking scenes. And admittedly this was one of the better ones that he's produced in years.

However I:

- Have never cared about Sasuke
- Don't give two shits about the Uchihas
- Don't like Naruto

Shhiinnnooo where are you baby?!
