You don't have to comment. I think the number of authors who do is pretty low, and in any case: podfic is something that a small subset of fandom does for their fellow podfic lovers. The extent of your involvement can end at "sure, you can record", and I think that a lot of podficcers prefer it that way.

I think it's more that OP wants to be polite, and that seems like the polite thing to do. Or maybe OP is over-compensating because they feel bad about hating podfics when someone legit likes their fic enough to take the time.
