Just because you have the ok to record it doesn't mean you're a fan or listener if the stuff. Do most people actually assume that? Kind of like how an author can say they're cool with fanfic/fandom, but they won't go out of their way to check it out.

haha I'm in the minority here that likes podfic and audiobooks. It's good for me when my hands are busy with things (cooking, drawing, cleaning, etc.), but I don't want to zone out like a creepy fugue state where I don't remember how this cake got here, or what I frosted it with. As long as it's not porn in the background though. That's just awkward.

That said, I'm in love with myselfand the sound of my own voice, so I want to start podficcing soon. However, I'm not going to hold it against anyone that lets me mangle their work if they don't listen ♥

I love listening to podfics while knitting. I'll even confess to listening to ficprorn, although that was for the lulz as much as anything. (It's worth it to tell somebody what you were listening to when you made their scarf.)

I really like audios as well, I like crafting, and listening to stuff as I do, and I hate cooking & cleaning, so there's something to distract me.

Also, I tend to read really really fast and maybe not savour as much as I should so audios make me slow down and use my imagination.

I started on an audiobook the other day where the author's soppy querulous voice annoyed me so much, the characters seemed to be really annoying too. I downloaded the ebook instead and continued where I'd left off, and suddenly I liked the characters. The female characters were 200% more badass.

So yeah, for me it depends on how the podfic is read, and their interpretations of characters, or not too inflected in the first place.

(I don't know how many people would be distracted by my rather nasal Australian accent if I did podfic, lol.)

(for certain you might be popular with North American listeners just by virtue of not having any of the accents here. It's worth a try :D)
