Not really adventure series, but periods and period pain are a massive plot point in Anne Bishop's Black Jewels Trilogy. Though it never gets down to what, exactly, the women do with the blood.

It's a magical fantasy world with various matriarchies as the center of society. You have Queens around which courts of thirteen men are built. It does a lot of inversion of gender roles, though it also includes a lot of gore, violence, rape, and abuse. I loved it as a teenager.

With regards to periods, witches are unable to use Craft (magic) for the first three days of their periods without severe pain and males of the Blood are able to basically sense when they're on their periods. Women pretty much control society, with periods and loss of virginity being their two major weaknesses.

wow that sounds really interesting actually.

I love matriarches/gender role reversal. a very intriguing topic.
