I like "manly" things, why can't guy like "girly" things?

Nothing wrong with breaking social norms. I remember reading the author pages of Fruits Basket and Kare Kano where the author talked about the male fans who sent letters detailing how embarressed they were buying the books. They are great stories so it makes me sad that (mostly) guys pressure each other about things like this. You are not alone in your feelings and you are no less masculine for liking things that have a largely female audience.

Because femininity is weak and disgusting and all should aspire to be masculine, don'tcha know.

protip: whenever someone includes the phrase "don'tcha know" in their comment, it is normally safe to assume they are speaking sarcastically

I also like things many would consider "guy" things, and run into similar problems with my friends being judged who like MLP, for example. :x One of my friends who loves MLP also adores Fruits Basket...but his friends give him crap for liking girl things (it's "jokingly" but said in a way where I can tell they still think it's shameful to some degree, and it pisses me off)

No one judges me for liking the things I like.

And it is rooted in sexism. Because it's "bad" for men to stoop to the level of liking feminine things, but desirable for a woman to like manly things - that's considered a step up for her. It's gross tbh.

But there are definite limits to the "woman liking manly things" side. I get judged a lot because about 95% of my hobbies and interests are considered "male". I dress like a teenage boy (the mens section has the best t-shirts and their pants actually have usable pockets!) and am in what is considered a male career. I get a lot of shit for it.

Because women liking some manly things is cool and strong and whatever, but if you like too much then you're just a weirdo or a butch dyke or some other supposed insulty thing. :\

You can like as many "male" hobbies and interests as you want so long as your appearance is conventionally feminine and attractive.

Sigh, society.

Yeah, good point. And I'm sorry to hear that you have to put up with all that. :(

Thanks for pointing that out. I used to wear guys' clothes a lot more often for some of the same reasons - more comfortable, lots of pockets, etc. I don't really any more, but I get where you're coming from.

Sometimes I wish people would just shut up. D:
