Defenders, some time around #136 I think. He behaved completely inappropriately when they were mourning Kyle and Barbara. It wasn't actually the funeral for either of them, but they were all standing around at Strange's place absolutely mortified and in shock, trading stories of how awesome their teammates were, and Spiderman was (too young to get it, too young to get it) just being a dick about everything.

So over 25 years ago, in a book that no one read so it was about to be cancelled, someone who didn't normally write Spiderman wrote him being a bit dickish, and therefor he shouldn't be as well liked as he is? Got it.
